chapitre18 asked: I've been a vegetarian for 2 months and I didn't start replacing proteins in my meals (at least not fully). I just stopped eating meat. I don't know what I should eat, what I should buy, where and how often. I really need a coach right now. Or pieces of advice. Can anyone help me ?
Well first of all, understand that it’s not just protein that may be lacking in your diet if you aren’t eating properly. The following is a list of nutrients you need and ways to consume them that I shamelessly copied from a book called The Vegetarian Bible.
Protein
Vitamin B-12
Zinc
Calcium
Iron (combine with foods high in vitamin c)
Now that you are a vegetarian, realize that you can’t just eat the same way you used to and remain completely healthy. See this as an opportunity to try new things and eat healthier! Look at vegetarian cookbooks, and mostly vegetarian blogs and websites for interesting recipes. Work hard to keep your diet balanced, and enjoy yourself in the awesome decision that you made to be a vegetarian!
As to what to buy and where, I shop at Publix, and I find that I spend most of my time in the produce section and near like, canned vegetables and rice and pasta stuff. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t really have to start shopping at some super Indie side of the road market thing just because you don’t eat meat. Everything you need should be available at your usual grocery store.
