Explanation: Feeding massive amounts of grain to farmed animals in order to produce a small amount of meat is an inefficient waste of resources.  It takes 441 gallons of water to produce 1 lb. of beef, and only 14 gallons to produce 1 lb. of wheat. It takes 8 times as much fossil fuel energy to produce animal protein than to produce the same amount of plant protein. Cattle grazing has contributed to the demise of 26% of federal threatened and endangered species.  Ranching induced deforestation is one of the main reasons for the loss of plant and animal species in tropical rainforests.   A meat eater’s diet is responsible for more than seven times as much greenhouse gas emissions as a vegan’s diet.  Source: http://www.chooseveg.com/environment.asp
